New
Financial Year Rates Uplift
Charitable
works across the desert
Mr Andrew Spear (Lentells
Chartered Accountants) gave a very informative talk entitled “Financial and Taxation
Issues for Sessional GPs”. He discussed
a wide number of issues including tax returns, employment and self employment
income issues and the current types of national insurance (Class 1-1V). He explained broadly how your tax is
calculated and when it is payable. He
completed the talk by discussing ways of helping to reduce your tax bill
including appropriate expenses claims, contributing to a personal pension
scheme, ISAs and offset mortgage products.
As
the new financial year beckoned the group discussed the area of uplift on sessional rates. It
was stressed that current sessional rates set
individually by members could not be discussed. Dr Kennerley brought to the attention of the
group suggested uplift rates by other bodies for the coming financial year. The DDRB suggests a pay increase of
3.225%. The GPC estimated increase in
superannuable income for 2005-2006 is 10.5% and it is understood that DDoc will
use a figure of 10.5% to uplift its rates in this new financial year. It is obviously left to the discretion of each
member of the group to establish their own rate increases and liaise
accordingly with their Practices.
