Guest Speaker

Dr Nick Withers gave a talk entitled “The Breathless Patient”. He discussed the importance of obtaining a full history in order to differentiate between asthma and COPD and make the correct diagnosis.. He explained the use of spirometry and how to interpret the measurements and flow curves.  Dr Withers also indicated that reversibility is no longer considered necessary under NICE guidelines but is still a QOF requirement in the COPD indicator.  It is hoped that this will be changed with the next QOF review, probably in 2006.
