Guest Speaker

Professor Edzard Ernst from the Department of Complementary Medicine at the Peninsula Medical School gave an informative talk on the use of complementary and alternative medicines. He reviewed Randomized Control Trials and the use of herbal medicine, homeopathy and osteopathy and acupuncture and looked at some of the adverse effects of using CAM. There was a lively question and answer session following his talk.

Venue:

There is still debate as to whether the new venue has adequate sound but we will endeavour to correct this problem for the next meeting.

Future dates and events to note:

1. The ESGPG Conference is to be held on the 30^th March and is being organised by Vik Mohan. This is open to all sessional GPs at no charge.
2. There is a Chronic Disease Management course on the 16^th March in Umberleigh and details of this are available from Liam Kinsella.

We would request that everyone signs the register please during the evenings as this can be used to confirm attendance at the meetings for Personal Development Plans and Appraisal.

There was a suggestion put forward that after the speaker we have a 10-minute “clinical conundrum” where we can discuss clinical problem cases. It would be up to everyone to bring useful or interesting cases to the meeting. This will be discussed at the next evening.

Future ESGPG Meetings

April 4th - Carole Brewer (Consultant in Clinical Genetics) - Genetic illness within families and who to screen.

May 2nd – Meeting to be arranged.

June 6th - Barry Thomas (Resuscitation Officer) - Resuscitation update with new guidelines.

Meeting time

Please note that the meetings are now scheduled to start at 7.00pm and food arrives at 7.15pm with the guest speaker planned to commence at 7.45pm. Meetings will all be held at the Royal Clarence Hotel
