Dr Sarah Black, Consultant Psychiatrist (Elderly Care), spoke about the management of the confused elderly person.

Rates

The DDRB is recommending an uplift of doctors’ and dentists’ pay of 3.225% for this year. The group cannot set a local rate but the consensus was that it would be reasonable for those who so wish to apply this uplift to their own rates.
Med-Economics reports that there is a broad range in rates across the country, but most of us fall somewhere in the middle of the range.

Educational Events

Joint Workshop

Simon Kay is running a series of joint/soft tissue workshops in Spring and Autumn 2004 concentrating on primary care diagnosis, treatment and management.

Talk on Dive Medicine

Vik is speaking on Dive medicine at St Olave’s Hotel, on 10 June.  There will be a one hour talk followed by dinner.  The meeting is being sponsored.  Contact Vik for more details.

Skin Forum

There is a skin forum for Non-Principals May 27th at Heavitree Health Centre.  Places are very limited and allocated on a first come first served basis.  Those attending need to suggest problem cases of patients who will attend and be seen with the other GPs and Dr Chris Bowers, Consultant Dermatologist.  Contact Vik ASAP for more details.

The Future…

John Deacon and Vik are working together to set up a series of education days for us. A few topics were mentioned but we need more ideas.  Please contact Vik with any ideas: this is a real opportunity for us to steer our own education.

Read Coding

There was interest from the group in obtaining copies of the St Thomas Surgery’s laminated Read Code crib-sheet and Vik will try to obtain some for us to buy at a nominal fee.

Palace Gate Counselling Service

If anyone knows someone with receptionist skills who might be able to volunteer their services to Palace Gate please contact them on 01392 205804.
