Stephne Maykels-Strange (Beecham Research)

Guest Speaker

Dr Adrian Harris (Consultant A&E at Royal Devon and Exeter) was the guest speaker for the evening.

Dr Harris gave an enlightening and very informative presentation on a wide selection of minor injury case studies entitled “What GPs do Badly”.

CPD Forum

It was evident that many of the sessional GPs present at the meeting were unaware of the CPD forum and only about 1/3 of the group had received letters and passwords regarding the forum.

Vacancy – Long term Locum

There is a long term locum at Heavitree (8 sessions per week from March-June/July 2005) covering sabbatical leave for Dr McLeod.  If interested contact him on 01647 252881.

HPE Study Day

The next meeting will be on 19th October and will cover GU Medicine (am) and On-Line Learning (pm). All are welcome and its Free. Those eligible for HPE will get funding to attend. Contact John Deacon on 01752 311972.

Sessional GP Group Database

Dr Diane Baker has established a database (from Sept 2004) of attendees at each ESGPG meeting which will be available to anyone wishing to include it in their appraisal portfolios.

Criminal Records Bureau Enhanced Disclosure

A reminder was given to the Group that all will need to have been registered by February 2005 to ensure eligibility to continue work. It is understood the appropriate forms for the Exeter area are going out in November and it was advised that they should be completed and returned as soon as possible to avoid delays.

Identification for Sessional GPs

The question was put to the Group as to whether some specific form of identification should be carried by them when working in areas they are not recognised and during out of hours. It was generally felt that most SGPs carried some form of identity (certificates etc) and as such additional ID was not necessary.

Salaried GPs Contracts

It was noted that significant improvements have been made to the model contract for Salaried GPs as a consequence of BMA and NASGP involvement. It was advised that anyone considering taking up a salaried position should consider viewing the new model contract on the NASGP web-site.

New meeting time

Please note that the meetings are now scheduled to start at 7.00pm and food arrives at 7.15pm with the guest speaker planned to commence at 7.45pm.
