The Mental Capacity Act 2005 received Royal Assent on 7 April 2005 and the Government is working towards implementing all of the Act by October 2007. Overall, the Act will provide a much clearer legal framework for people who lack capacity and those caring for them by setting out key principles, procedures and safeguards.
GPC FAQ - These questions and answers (Q&As) have been prepared by the General Practitioners Committee (GPC) in liaison with Central Consultants and Specialists Committee (CCSC), Professional Fees Committee (PFC), Ethics and the Psychiatry Subcommittee in advance of the full implementation of the Mental Capacity Act.
