GPC - Support Your Surgery - online tools & information - 3 Jun '08
Dear All,
As part of the Support Your Surgery campaign, the BMA has produced several internet tools designed to promote the core aims of the campaign to people who use the web as their main source of information.
A roundup of all of these tools is included below. It would be extremely useful if you could send this email to your contacts and email lists, as well as promote it in any other means through your LMC.
Facebook Group – Support Your Surgery
Facebook is a large social networking site that allows individuals to set up online profiles and then join “groups” – special mini-forums on particular topics that enable people to discuss issues, post links to news reports/online clips and generally interact with other people.
Currently, more than sixty million people have accounts with Facebook, with around nine million of these located in the UK. Recent research has shown that an increasing number of people use Facebook not only to stay in touch with friends, but also to access information and news.
In order to get the BMA’s message over to people on this site, the BMA has set up the Support Your Surgery group on Facebook. Anyone with a Facebook account can join for free:
The group will aim to keep everyone up to date with the latest news from the campaign as well as allow discussion on the issues it raises.
Please join this group and encourage your friends to join as well.
Online Clips on BMAtv
BMAtv, the BMA’s YouTube channel, has two new online clips from GPC Communications Group member Dr Beth McCarron-Nash, talking about the campaign.
The first clip explains how GPs can use the Support Your Surgery campaign pack: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=qZyohyX5ovg
In a second clip, Beth answers important questions about the campaign, such as what members should do if they are asked to take down campaign posters:
If you cannot access YouTube, both clips are also available on the BMA website:
